Cuba's Trinidad is a beautiful colonial city where time seems to stand still. Its many public areas and squares, well-preserved buildings and cobblestone streets rich in tradition and legends led UNESCO to declare the village Humankind's Heritage in 1988. Its location between the sea and the mountains gives the city a peculiar touch. In 1515, Spanish Governor Diego Velázquez founded the settlement of Santísima Trinidad (Holy Trinity) in what is now the province of Sancti Spiritus. Explore this city starting from the Plaza Mayor, o Great Square. You will be tempted to tarry in the Iglesia Mayor, or Great Church, museums, Plaza de los Artesanos (Craftsmen's Square) and Santa Ana Square. La Canchánchara is absolutely the right place for recouping energy and deciding where to go next, to the outskirts of town, to see the Manaca-Iznaga Tower, the Valle de los Ingenios (Sugarmill Valley) and María Aguilar Beach, or to the Escambray Mountain Range, to see Topes de Collantes and the Caburní Falls. All are great attractions. Then, there is the Calaveras (Skull) Cave, Lake Zaza (if you like fishing) and several hunting games in the area.
